Setup assistant launched!16 days ago

Since the early days of Broadcast, people were asking how they could install Broadcast more easily.

They wanted a one-click set up solution without even need to spin up a server and connect to it through SSH.

After some hacking this weekend, I've added this feature to the customer dashboard.

It currently supports Hetzner, but will support Digital Ocean, Linode, and others soon.

Launched (added) a demo for Broadcast1 month ago

Creating a self-hosted software, probably one of the first things one should consider is offering some demo for potential customers to evaluate what the app looks like.

Well, it took about 3.5 weeks, but I've finally added it at https://demo.sendbroadcast.net.

Modified a few things in the code to:

• Disallow demo users from deleting or updating certain settings

• Added a cron job to "reset" the system every 15 minutes

• Added a call to action right within the demo

And of course, setting up a whole different VPS to host the thing.

Alpha v1 released1 month ago

The first alpha version was released to early supporters over the weekend. Like all alpha software, it wasn't without its hiccups.

It took 5-6 weeks to get the product to market, and during this period of time, a lot of coding happened.

I also built this in public throughout this whole time, letting people know what I was building.

In a "build and launch fast" fashion, I don't know if I prefer this cadence of speed. It definitely took a toll on my physical health as I stayed up late (a lot) to get code written and tested.

At the same time, once you prelaunch and take money from people, there's a certain expectation and you (as the builder) need to focus and get the product into people's hands.

Now that it's been 3 days since the product was released into the wild, I'm back at refining the product based on the early feedback.

This second time around, I'm going to pace myself a little bit slower to keep things more manageable (as burnout can definitely set in if one isn't careful).

Onward to more releases this week!
